1. Introduction: Why Quantum Protection?

Today's internet relies on asymmetric encryption algorithms such as RSA and ECC. However, as "Q-Day"—the point when sufficiently powerful quantum computers emerge—approaches, these encryption methods will become vulnerable. Obside Quantum Gateway is a browser-based edge defense system designed to protect data today against "Harvest Now, Decrypt Later" (HNDL) attacks.

2. Core Architecture: Difference from Server-Based Solutions

Unlike traditional VPNs or centralized gateways, Obside Quantum Gateway performs encryption and key exchange processes directly on the client side.

  • End-to-End Hybrid Encryption: Before data leaves the user's device, it is encrypted using a hybrid approach with both classical X25519 and quantum-resistant ML-KEM algorithms.
  • Decentralized Security: Your data is not processed on a central server; the protection layer is integrated directly into the browser core.
  • Zero Telemetry Integration: Encryption keys and traffic data are never transmitted to external servers or recorded by Obside.

3. Technical Specifications and Components

A. Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) Shield

Obside utilizes post-quantum algorithms approved by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). These algorithms are mathematically resistant to the ability of quantum computers to solve complex mathematical problems, delivering robust protection against "Harvest Now, Decrypt Later" (HNDL) threats.

B. Per-Tab Isolation

Quantum Gateway works in full integration with the Network Manager. A different quantum-secure tunnel can be opened for each tab:

  • Isolated Channels: A potential leak or attack in one tab does not affect the quantum shield of other tabs.
  • Proxy & VPN Integration: Quantum-protected traffic can be routed to different proxy or VPN exit points based on user preferences.

C. Performance Optimization

PQC algorithms generally require high processing power and wide bandwidth. Obside employs the following methods to mitigate this load:

  • Multi-threaded Encryption: Encryption processes are executed in the background using multiple threads.
  • Low-Level C++/Rust Core: Algorithms operate optimized for CPU instruction sets.
